As part of a discussion on the uscricket website, I received some feedback on this blog. I can’t believe the encouragement I have received as well as the positive feedback. My intention has always been to join an existing club in the spring of 2006. After digesting some of the feedback I received, I have changed my plans. It appears that my mission would be best served by trying to assemble an “All American Cricket team.” As I have always felt and said from day one “ I feel as though I am on a spiritual mission and I am only the messenger” I will take this feedback as another cosmic sign as to what I need to do next. Before I continue, let me make this clear. “This has absolutely nothing to do with thinking Americans are any better than anyone else or not wanting ex pats on an American team. If it were not for the kindness of the Indian guys who took me under their wing and taught me the game, I would not be in the position I am today. I will be forever grateful to them!!” From day, one my ultimate dream was to see a team of Americans compete against the best in the world as a full member of the ICC. As I read somewhere, “If the US won the World cup it would be the biggest story ever in the United States just as the US Olympic Hockey team victory in 1980”. I have spent long hours planning details of what I would wish for a team of Americans. The navy jackets, the bus, the logo, the players etc…It would be a team of ultimate gentlemen who possess the manners and admirable qualities that this great game represents. They would be role models to the youth of America and help change the image of what American sports / athletes have become. If I am to try and start my own team in the Mass State Cricket League at least I am in the position to be a leader. From what I can see, the first thing I need to do is recruit some players. I figure I could reach a pretty good audience by placing a free add on the cable access channels as well as having friends who are interested join up. I would basically ask anyone who is interested to email me to start. The next step would be to get a meeting place where I could start educating everyone on all the facets of the game using videos, books and first hand information. I have some connections so I would try and see if I could have access to an indoor gym for practicing thru ought the winter. I would also try and secure a field for practice and home matches. Again, I have some good connections and I wouldn’t rule out the ability of getting a real pitch put in by the start of the season. From what I can see I only have to apply for membership in the MSCL and pay the fee to play in the 2nd 11 division. The more I think about this the more I am starting to believe that I can pull it off. Fortunately I have 5 days of vacation starting today and will use the time to make a detailed game plan as to how I am going to get this done. In the interim, please provide any and all suggestions that will help me in this mission. If you knowof anyone who lives in the NE part of MA or the Southern part of NH, please have them contact me at bethecoffeecup81@yahoo.com. Who knows, if there is a lot of response we could end up with a few teams. It goes without saying that if I am willing to do this, I would expect any Americans who know the game in other parts of the US to consider doing the same!!
